Keep Those RCA Votes Coming!

Ask your clients to vote for your spa in the 2011 SpaFinder Readers’ Choice Awards, and they’ll be entered for a chance to win the getaway of a lifetime! The winner has a choice between one of two packages* offered for two: A spiritual retreat at Ananda in the Himalayas (prize package valued at $4,900) or a spa adventure at Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat (prize package valued at $5,000).

A win is a major accolade to a spa property, as SpaFinder Readers’ Choice Awards are the most comprehensive consumer assessment of the global spa market available and garner plenty of industry attention. Spa resorts/hotels can leverage their award accomplishments in both web and press materials as well.

We love Chiva Som’s clever Facebook campaign to encourage clients to cast their ballots:

Remind your clients that voting takes only a few minutes of their time and is just a click away. Share this link: Vote now.

Social Media Marketing: Drive Sales & Customer Loyalty

In a time when social media is ubiquitous in the marketing world, it’s important to know what you’re doing when it comes to connecting online with your customers and potential customers. Consumers are using social media to connect with businesses and brands they’re interested in and it’s bringing the business-customer relationship closer than ever. Just think, without Twitter, would you ever have communicated with your favorite magazine, telling them what you like and don’t like, and not to mention, even find a mention of you by them in a response?

While social media started out seeming inconsequential it is now an essential ingredient in building your brand image, as well as relationships with current and future clients. We’ve rounded up a few tips on how to market your business effectively through social media.

From SpaFinder’s own social media and online marketing expert, Gracey Newman:

• Consistency is Key
Make sure your Facebook URL matches your business name so your customers can find you easily. Just log into your Facebook account and go to this link: http://www.facebook.com/username/. Here, you can change your username so your URL will be Facebook.com/businessname.

• Sharing is Caring
Add the Facebook “Like” and “Send” buttons to your website. Just click on this link and follow the directions. Add this code to your homepage so your customers can “Like” your homepage. Keep in mind that a “Like” is now also a “Share” so when someone likes your site, it will also post to their Facebook wall for all of their friends to see.

And we also found a few on mashable.com from Dave Kerpen, CEO of Likeable, a social media agency that has worked with more than 200 leading brands including 1-800Flowers.com, Verizon and Neutrogena. He is author of Likeable Social Media. Check them out here.

Equinox Partners with Spa 7 to Offer Medical Spa Treatments

Equinox is taking the definition of wellness beyond just fitness with a new partnership with Spa 7 medical spa. While the health club chain already has spas at four of its clubs, Spa 7 will bring laser-based medical treatments, such as laser hair removal, skin rejuvenation, skin tightening, body contouring and more, to two West Hollywood, California, Equinox clubs by fall of this year. The new full-service trilogy of fitness, day spa and medical spa has already rolled out in one West Hollywood location.

“We have the most innovative procedures but clients also get to reap the benefits of the use the gym and spa facility the day of their treatment,” Pamela Yager, co-founder and spa director of Spa 7, told SpaFinder, adding that there is the potential of spreading beyond West Hollywood. “They’ll get to go to classes, use equipment, and go on the spa sun deck. We’re delivering on Equinox’s tagline, ‘It’s not fitness, it’s life.’”

Nicole Vitale, senior director of spa at Equinox said that because Spa 7 has a good reputation in California, it seemed like a great fit.

“We always want to expand our services and offer everything we could,” Vitale told SpaFinder. “We’re excited to have them on board and I think it will be a great partnership going forward with everyone learning what they do from laser hair removal to body sculpting, and the photofacials that they do are great.”

The biggest point of differentiation for Spa 7 is that it’s the only spa offering the new Solar Facial treatment in the country, Yager added. This treatment offers fillers without injections. More information will be rolling out soon.

“It’s sort of a one-stop shop concept,” Yager said. “I like to use the saying ‘We know you’re getting it; get it here.’”

Getting Creative with Your Deals

It’s time to get creative! Raise the bar of your business and stay competitive by applying new twists on promoting what could be considered “traditional” spa business techniques.

Here are just a few spas we think are setting the pace:

Early Risers

Argyle Salon & Spa in West Hollywood, California, offers a “Good Morning Massage” deal, bookable between the hours of 9 a.m.-12 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, to start spa-goers’ work day off right. Clients will enjoy savings of $35 on this select massage, available in 50-minute or 80-minute increments.

Other spas jumping on the bandwagon include major Las Vegas Spas such as Canyon Ranch SpaClub, Qua Baths at Caesars Palace or Hard Rock’s Rock Spa which open at 5:30 a.m. or 6:00 a.m. Likewise, the Spa at Mandarin Oriental, London, opens its doors at 7 a.m.

Night Owls

On the flip side, spas like Homme Spa and Osaka Health Spa, both based in New York, remain open until the wee morning hours, and Massage Envy and Bliss franchises welcome clients until 10 p.m., seven days per week. Others such as Juvenex Spa, also in New York, offer round-the-clock spa treatments, which was recently highlighted in the SpaFinder 2011 Spa Trend Report.

Not Your Average Spa Programming

Spas like Tiffani Kim Institute in downtown Chicago offer innovative services like fertility boot camp for singles and couples. The one-day retreat includes educating clients on mind/body connection with infertility and do-it-yourself acupressure techniques to enhance fertility and talk sessions with reproductive endocrinologist, OB/GYN and urologist. The institute also currently offers a free lunchtime meditation session with Caroline Jung, a board-certified acupuncturist and certified yoga instructor.

Couple’s Massage: Not Just for Romantics

As you boost your efforts when it comes to catering to duos, help clients distinguish the true meaning of a couple’s massage. While yes, the couple’s massage can be considered a romantic spa-going experience for two, it can also be a fantastic way to bring in business such as mother-daughter teams, BFFs, sisters and more to socialize, bond and relax together (Note: It’s also a great way to generate first-time spa-goers, who might find it more comfortable and relaxing if a friend is with them.) Market the couple’s massage as a “duo” or “dual” massage for two.

Living the Suite Life

If you’re able, transform some of your guest accommodates to spa rooms or suites. The Trump International Hotel and Tower® Chicago does so in style, offering 53 spa guest rooms, located on the spa level, that connect to the spa and come appointed with a personal nutritionist and in-room dining menu of healthy cuisine.
